Scenario Lottomatica Italia is one of the major lottery operators worldwide and is the leader in the gaming sector. On 29th August 2006 Lottomatica S.p.A. and Gtech Holding Corporation created one of the world’s leading gaming solution and service provider. In 2007 Lottomatica Italia launched a new Betting service relating to fixed-odds sporting bets. With the “Better” project, Lottomatica intends becoming the major player in the betting market in the near future. The fixed-odd bet is a bet where the result of a sporting event to which pre-established odds have been associated must be forecasted. The bet’s winnings are then calculated by multiplying the amount bet by the odds assigned to the forecasted event. In this way, when the better places his bet, he already knows the amount he will win if the event ends as he forecasted. The Solution Through the Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition, Reply has created a Business Intelligence and Datawarehouse system fed through an Enterprise Service Bus that allows the betting operator to acquire in “near real time” basic data from the betting platform and to analyze the trend of certain indicators (collected volume, margin, ...) on various analysis dimensions (geographic, programme schedules, event, result...). The betting platform Technology Reply has developed the solution for the new modular, scalable betting platform (called the Betting Core platform), (Full J2EE compliant, Service Oriented and based on Oracle Database 10g EE) that allows Lottomatica, through an entirely web-based interface, designed according to the new Web 2.0 (rich client GUI) standards, to manage programme schedules and betting odds, to collect bets from the various channels (betting offices and the Internet) and to manage wins and payments. Through a Process Oriented logic based on the BPEL standard, the betting platform integrates with the rest of the B2B (e. g.: Datawarehouse) and B2C (Internet Portal, Content Management) architecture components. Near Real Time Datawarehouse In addition to the Betting Core Platform, Technology Reply has developed the Business Intelligence and Datawarehouse of the Better platform. The main feature is that business areas are fed through an Enterprise Service Bus that allows betting operators to acquire basic data in “near real time”, to get elementary data from the betting operation systems and to analyse the trend of certain indicators (collected volume, margin, ...) on various analysis dimensions (geographic, programme schedule, event, result, ...). Operators can also combine historic information with information in real time for a comparative analysis of trends. The result The choice of the Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition was crucial for the project which Lottomatica carried out in only four months. The solution designed by Technology Reply: • is completely web-based, highly modular and Process Oriented • is equipped with a rich client GUI that allows the betting operator facilitated interaction • combines a powerful engine for the development of reports both on Oracle data and on data from external sources (e.g. SQL- Server), with a simple delivery management towards the user guaranteeing al the access profile definition functions • allows access to information in near real time allowing users to combine historic information with information in real time.
