The Crowdsourcing model, the flexibility of Cloud Computing, the engagement and sharing of Social Networking are the three components Reply has brought into play for Appsquare. Reply [MTA, STAR: REY], company specialising in the design and implementation of solutions based on new Digital Media and communication channels, has been selected by 3 Italia, the first mobile operator worldwide to have launched UMTS commercially in 2003, to create Appsquare (www.appsquare.it), an innovative platform – in cloud format - able to put mobile application designers in contact with those who can turn their designs into reality. Appsquare is a digital market square, tailored for anyone with an idea to develop innovative smartphone and tablet applications. Appsquare allows users to publish their own ideas and draw them to the attention of the entire community, which will then proceed to single out the most interesting ones using a virtual stocks and shares trading game (the “ideas Stock Exchange”). The winning ideas, when approved by 3 Italia, will be transformed into real mobile applications and released in the various application stores. What’s more, Appsquare will be responsible for the development of the winning applications, through the publication of job announcements addressed to the members of the community. Appsquare is based on Reply’s Crowdsourcing platform Starbytes™ (www.starbytes.it), which will also be used for the start up of the service, by involving the Starbyters community, which is already active and numbers over 9,000 members. In order to keep the community interested and alive, the “social” components of TamTamy™ (www.tamtamy.com) – the Reply platform for Social Networking – have been integrated into Appsquare, incorporating discussions and the sharing of ideas, as has the specific logic of “gamification”, with the intention of stimulating the creation of new ideas and encouraging participation in the Idea Exchange. “The synergy between companies of the Reply group involved in the project has led to remarkable results”, said Filippo Rizzante. “Appsquare is a highly interesting project as it combines a number of innovative areas we have been investing in, such as Cloud Computing, Social Networking and Crowdsourcing”. “Crowdsourcing represents an “Open Enterprise” business model”, continues Filippo Rizzante, “while for professionals it is a way of showcasing their services on a global scale”. Reply was one of the first companies in Italy to believe in this model; in fact we launched Starbytes a year ago, and after just a few months its community had grown to over 9,000 users”.
