Internal Audit

In the last few years, the Internal Audit (IA) function has recorded a fast evolution within businesses in Italy. While in still relatively recent times this activity mainly entailed controlling processes and ex-post checks carried out in the Finance and Administration area, today - in advanced managed businesses – the IA function is mainly focused on preventive actions and embraces the whole Internal Controlling System.

Presently the IA objectives are to protect and to improve the business value. The current scope of this function includes the whole organization; actions are based on both strategic and operating approaches. The support provided by the IA function goes beyond  the  ”assurance” activity, typical for Internal Audit till few years ago. Today, IA professionals provide the corporate management with a consulting activity related to various issues and areas of the business activity.

This increasing important role played by IA requires a wider involvement of various skills and professionals. The IA-specific competences related to Corporate Governance, Risk Management and Compliance must be combined and integrated with Administration and Finance related knowledge, with Information Technology skills as well as in-depth knowledge of all the Value Chain processes.
