As of 2008, users will access the NRK archive containing various millions of titles through their mobile phones or the Net. NRK AKTIVUM, the commercial subsidiary of NRK, has relied on discovery sysko – company focused on consulting services and solutions for the Digital Asset Management and part of syskoplan – Reply’s German subsidiary – to develop an ePortal and a Music Shop. As of 2008, users will be able to retrieve, listen, purchase and download every music title NRK acquired from 1970 up to present day. All these music titles have already been digitalized and stored in the Digital Music Archive (DMA) created and developed for NRK by Discovery Reply - Reply’s company focused on Media Asset Management - during the first months of 2007. In the near future, with the new ePortal and the related Music Shop users will be enabled to download music samples, as well as to access NRK’s own productions. News, sport information, weather forecasts, playlists, program schedules and articles related to programs will be offered both through Mobile and Internet access. The purchase and download of music will include the music itself and extended and additional information about the titles, additional material and images, as well as an offer for buying DVDs, books, audiobooks and merchandizing products. Unlike other music download sites, NRK’s Music Shop will provide its users with leading-edge and brand-new functionalities; using the DMA semantic technology and a precise cataloguing of the music titles, users will be able to perform deep and advanced analyses of the music in order to identify those titles which make up their customized hit-list. Both the latest hits and music that is no longer available on the market can be acquired. The purchase and download of music is done in compliance with the performing rights of artists and music labels. NRK AKTIVUM wants to strengthen its contact to its listeners and to all the Internet and mobile users in Norway. The ePortal and the related Music Shop are the logical consequence of the process of digitalizing all of their archives on the DMA and provide easy and direct access to legacy titles with the aim of securing them for future purposes. NRK’ goal is to enable a digital file-based production in radio and television, preserve Norway’s cultural heritage and facilitate the way this production is offered to the public. Based on the Joca® framework—developed by syskoplan – the ePortal and the Music Shop are seamlessly integrated with the other systems at the base of the success of the new NRK initiative, like CRM, DRM, shops and e-ticketing. The collaboration with NRK is a good example of how Reply and syskoplan cooperate in order to manage the entire value-added chain in the field of Media Production & Commerce: from plan to optimization, by providing User Layers and Media Production as well as business and integration solutions.
