The penetration-test team from Spike Reply, a Reply group company specialising in business-security and fraud-management services, has come second out of 124 entrants from 24 countries in the Hacker’s Dome competition. The ethical hackers’ highly specialist training challenge was to break into several servers provided by the organisers, gaining system administrator access and “Capturing the Flag” – all in less than 24 hours. There were no rules, except that the servers had to remain up and running throughout. The teams could use any tool or intrusion technique. The contest drew 124 entrants – 71 from the USA, eight from Canada, six from France, five from Germany, five from the UK, and just two from Italy. The seven-strong Spike Reply team successfully captured all the flags (designated files) in under eight hours, compared to an average of 10 hours for other groups. Their achievement highlights the calibre of Spike Reply’s team, which works every day to protect its customers’ information systems by using dedicated methodologies, analytical services and new technologies to provide integrated, all-round security. In particular, Spike Reply’s penetration-test services verify the security perimeter for companies’ wired and wireless network infrastructure, industrial systems (SCADA), servers and IT components (SAP, BES, VPN Gateway, ATM, etc.), and the server-side and user-side management of web, client-server and mobile applications.
