During its recent annual Ignite conference, US multinational Microsoft issued three brand-new sizzle videos for three of its software products – Tasks, Fluid Framework and Yammer. This new media release is designed to not only show the potential of the software but entice viewers to revisit them and discover exciting new applications.
This is not the first time in 2019 Microsoft has created videos to make its already popular software appear more engaging. Earlier this year, in an expertly produced style more commonly seen promoting a brand-new Surface device, the Washington-based firm released sizzle videos showing off the capabilities of Windows Terminal and SharePoint. The new advertising segments for Tasks, Fluid Framework and Yammer are produced in the same style.
A new look at private social networking and enhanced planning
A “freemium enterprise” service for social networking within an organisation privately, Yammer is now being overhauled by Microsoft. The new design will feature enhanced integration with collaborative platforms like Teams and SharePoint, along with Microsoft’s personal information manager Outlook.
In honour of this new plan, the Yammer sizzle video displays miniature buttons representing avatars, reams of printing paper as conversations, and emphasises the updated options for dark mode for a more bespoke user experience. The video illustrates how enjoyable Yammer can be to use, rather than the purely functional capabilities it possesses as a corporate social network.
The video to show off what Microsoft Tasks can do follows a similar format. The planning application sizzle video begins with a button that animates into a colour splash and shows tasks that appear on the display of a Surface Studio device. The latest Microsoft hardware is used to great effect creating in these informercials, bringing a sleek and sophisticated look to the software.
A framework for the future
Although the first two promotional videos detail software with which many Microsoft users are familiar already, the third features a future product Fluid Framework. Developed by Microsoft to assist in powering collaborative experiences in Office online in the future, Fluid Framework has been developed to be a new type of document model that allows Artificial Intelligence (AI), along with other services, to plug in.
In a recent statement, Microsoft 365 head Jared Spataro commented on Fluid Framework:
“It takes the concept of what used to be a document and blows it up and replaces it with a big cloud address in the sky. It allows you, at that cloud address, to place different content components so everything from written word to tables, to visualisations like graphs all together in one place.”
This process is visualised in the Microsoft video with glass coloured objects and building blocks. These new videos, created by the design studio Tendril, may be a sign of things to come in how Microsoft promotes its software and we may expect to see more media in this format to come.
