Managing Flink on Kubernetes & How to contribute to Apache Flink
A 'streaming first' data processing engine, Apache Flink is an exciting tool and we want to help grow the community. With 600 members (and growing), we organise, run and participate in these meetups within the community who are excited about Apache Flink's potential. This Meetup is organised and lead by our senior Data Science consultant, Dr. Christos Hadjinikolis.
There were two talks in this session. Led by Robert Metzger, the first talk was an introduction to various ways of contributing to Apache Flink. He started with an introduction to the Apache Software Foundation, its history and present-day status, as well as where Apache Flink fits within the Foundation. This was followed by an overview of the different areas to contribute, and what to consider in those areas. Interested participants then had the chance to set up an environment for contributing code and documentation to Flink or the Flink website with the speaker’s help.
The second part of the session was led by Andrea Medeghini, where he guided participants on the options of managing Flink clusters on Kubernetes. His experience on running Flink on Docker containers led him to consider implementing a tool for managing clusters and jobs, and monitoring their status, with the potential to become an integrated console. Andrea shared his findings with the community through this talk and hands-on session.
